GREENWOOD FOOTBALL SCORES LATE, TOPS THORP TO EARN PLAYOFF BERTH

THORP – The Greenwood High School football team is heading to the playoffs, using a touchdown in the final minute to top Thorp 12-6 on Friday night at Thorp High School.
The Indians (6-3, 4-3 Cloverwood Conference) dominated the statistics, outgaining Thorp (3-6, 2-5 Cloverwood) 331-189, but the score was tight until the end.
Thorp scored midway through the first quarter on a 1-yard run by Zander Rockow and the Cardinals’ 6-0 lead held until late in the second half when Greenwood mounted a drive.
Greenwood quarterback Cooper Bredlau ran in from the 7 with 13 seconds to go before halftime, and after a failed two-point conversion, the score was tied 6-6 going into intermission.
The score remained that way until late in the game when the Indians again penetrated Thorp territory.
Bredlau, who ran for 138 yards in the game, snuck in from the 4-yard line with 26 seconds to go to give the Indians the win, and send them to the WIAA playoffs.
The WIAA will announce its playoff brackets on Saturday.
Wyatt Artac added 81 yards rushing for Greenwood, which racked up 295 yards on the ground on 58 carries.
