WAUSAU – The No. 1 seed Wausau Newman Catholic boys basketball team had little trouble with No. 16 seed Tri-County as it rolled to a 77-30 win in a WIAA Division 5 regional quarterfinal Tuesday night at Newman Catholic High School.
Newman cruised out to a 41-23 lead by halftime and finished off the win by limiting Tri-County to just seven points in the second half.
Mason Prey had 25 points and Isaac Seidel had 21 for the Cardinals, who improve to 18-7 this season. Seidl's 12 points on the night put him at 1,000 for his career.
Newman Catholic will host No. 9 seed Stevens Point Pacelli (13-12) in a regional semifinal Friday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live at zaleskisports.com.
Jairo Monry led Tri-County (1-16) with 12 points.
