STRATFORD – Stratford High School senior Chandler Schmidt officially signed his letter of intent to continue his education and play baseball at Winona State University in Winona, Minn., next fall.

“I’d like to thank God, my parents, coaches, and teachers for getting me to where I am today,” Schmidt said on his Twitter page, posting a picture of the Winona State logo.

Schmidt, a pitcher and infielder for Stratford, was an unanimous first-team all-Marawood Conference selection in 2019, helping the Tigers to the conference and WIAA Division 3 state championships.

On the mound, Schmidt was 6-0 with three saves, finishing the season with a 1.66 earned-run average. He had 41 strikeouts in 33 2/3 innings. At the plate, Schmidt hit a team-best .386 (27-for-70) with 22 RBIs and 19 runs scored.

Winona State, an NCAA Division II school, finished 2019 with a 26-23 record and a 16-16 mark in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
