WAUSAU – Wausau West scored three times in a three-minute span early in the second half to pull away and eventually finish off a 5-0 win over Marshfield in a Wisconsin Valley Conference girls soccer game Tuesday at West High School.
Kayla Malourh scored in the 10th minute for West, which held on to the 1-0 lead through the end of the first half.
The Warriors busted the game open with goals from Allison Ruesch, Lindsey Lucht and Emma Steinbach within 3:07 of each other.
“We played well in the first half and without the benefit of a whistle on the second field, where many Tigers players stopped play, thinking it was for their game, or the score could have been 0-0 at half,” Marshfield coach Steve Lindner said. “The learning continues and the younger players continue to understand what it takes to win at the varsity level in the Valley.”
Marshfield (4-3 overall and Wisconsin Valley Conference) hosts first-place D.C. Everest at 7 p.m. Thursday at Heiting Community Stadium. The game will be live at zaleskisports.com.
