BATTLE OF PORTAGE COUNTY GOES TO PLOVER
SPORTSDESK - Plover and Stevens Pointed were locked in a one-all tie going into the bottom of the third inning. The bottom of the inning saw Plover put a six spot on the board against the 6ers and didn't look back from there, taking the game 8-5.
The key third inning for Plover began on a Derek Baumgartner RBI single, Cam Stampfl and Mike Glodosky also had RBI hits in the inning to go up 7-1. Stevens Point mounted a comeback attempt in the 7th, scoring three runs on RBI plate appearances from Justin Morton, JD Schultz and Jacob Danielsen. In the end, the Plover offense carried the day for the 8-5 victory.
As they did on Tuesday, the Black Sox used an wide assortment of pitchers to get through the game. Logan Schulfer, Dylan Davis, Dylan Trigg and Kaden Roberts all saw action from the hill, giving up five earned runs and recording five strikeouts.
Next up for Plover is a doubleheader at DePere on Sunday, first pitch scheduled for 1pm. Next up for Stevens Point is the Firecracker Ed Kardach Memorial Tournament, their opening game in the annual tournament is against Nekoosa with first pitched scheduled for 7:30pm at Bukolt Park.
