ATHENS BOYS BASKETBALL PULLS PAST PRENTICE IN MARAWOOD NORTH OPENER

ATHENS – Cooper Diedrich scored 21 points, and Aiden Janke had 15 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Athens boys basketball team to a 63-43 win over Prentice in the Marawood Conference North Division opener for both teams on Tuesday at Athens High School.


Athens held a narrow 24-21 lead at halftime before opening it up in the second half, outscoring the Buccaneers (1-1 overall) by 17 to pull away.


Connor Sheahan added 14 points and Kody Lepak chipped in 12 for Athens, which made 24 of 36 free throws in the victory.


Both teams will play Marawood Conference crossover games later this week. Athens (2-0 overall) will be at Wausau Newman Catholic on Thursday, and Prentice will play at Stratford on Friday. Both games will be live-streamed at zaleskisports.com.
