RIB MOUNTAIN – Another Wisconsin Valley Conference Cross Country Meet, another title for the Stevens Point Area Senior High boys.

SPASH had six runners finish in the top seven to take the team title at the Wisconsin Valley Conference Cross Country Meet on Saturday at Nine Mile Recreation Area.

Stevens Point won the boys title for the 43rd time in the last 44 years in which it has competed. SPASH did not participate in fall sports in 2020, and that last time before that it was not the boys conference champion was 1987.

The Panthers had the top four runners and six of the top seven led by conference champion James Jacobs, who won in 16:22.5, 6½ seconds ahead of teammate Aloysius Franzen.

The Marshfield boys finished second and the girls were fourth in the team standings as six Tigers earned all-conference honors with top-15 finishes.

Henry Hoerneman finished fifth in 17:02.0, Graham Lonsdale was 10th (17:19.9), Owen Hoerneman took 12th (17:23.5) and Thomas Cashmer was 13th (17:24.0) to lead Marshfield and earn all-WVC honors.

D.C. Everest’s Sara Mlodik won the girls race in 19:11.1.

Kairi Kim took 13th for Marshfield in 21:03.1 to also earn all-WVC accolades. Calleigh Kanitz grabbed a top-20 finish as well for the Tigers, taking 17th in 21:07.9.

“It was a good meet for us today and the kids ran well,” Marshfield coach Dan Akin said. “We are pleased to have the boys place second overall and this team is looking good going into sectionals. Six all-conference runners says a lot about the quality of the runners on our team.”

The Wisconsin Rapids girls had three top-five finishes as Kate Schaeffer was third (20:14.1), Elise Moon finished fourth (20:17.1) and Allison Jahns took fifth (20:17.6).
