CUMBERLAND – For the second week in a row, the Spencer/Columbus Catholic football team took on an undefeated team, but this time the Rockets couldn’t pull off the upset.

A week after beating unbeaten Amherst, Spencer/Columbus was overwhelmed by undefeated Cumberland, losing 42-8 in a WIAA Division 4 postseason contest on Friday night at Cumberland High School.

The Beavers scored two touchdowns in the first three minutes and rolled out to a 34-0 lead by halftime.

Spencer/Columbus’ touchdown came with 2:33 left in the game from running back Eden Jacobson, who was held to 24 yards rushing on 15 attempts.

Cumberland quarterback Maddux Allen and the Beavers’ passing game proved unstoppable.
