NEKOOSA – The Pittsville volleyball team opened its 2019 season by going 0-3 at the Nekoosa Quadrangular on Tuesday.

Pittsville lost to Nekoosa 25-19, 25-12; Port Edwards 25-17, 18-25, 15-9; and Wisconisn Rapids Assumption 25-18, 25-12.

Cammie Reno had eight kills and Maddie Carpenter added seven for the Panthers, who were playing their first matches under new coach Rob “Buff” Heller.

Helen Durrant had a team-high 15 assists, Melissa Giles led the Pittsville defense with 17 digs, and Bekah Downs added 12 digs for the Panthers.

“We struggled on our own side of the net,” Heller said. “When we cleaned up our unforced errors and missed serves, we looked OK.”

Pittsville plays a nonconference play at home against Edgar on Thursday.
