PACELLI SURGES PAST ASSUMPTION IN SECOND HALF TO WIN D-5 BOYS BASKETBALL REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – No. 9 seed Stevens Point Pacelli earned a road win in its WIAA playoff opener, using a strong second half to beat No. 8 seed Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 68-50 in a Division 5 regional quarterfinal Tuesday night at Assumption High School.
Pacelli (13-12) will play at No. 1 seed Wausau Newman Catholic (18-7) in a Division 5 regional semifinal on Friday at 7 p.m. The game will be broadcast live at zaleskisports.com.
The game was tied 29-29 at halftime before the Cardinals pulled away, outscoring Assumption (11-14) 39-21 over the final 18 minutes.
Jaydon Awe had 25 points and Logan Mayer added 15 for Pacelli.
Reed Duellman scored 14 points and Ryan Shaw added 11 for the Royals.
