MOSINEE, STRATFORD, NEILLSVILLE GRAB SPOTS AT DIVISION 2 STATE TRACK MEET

OSCEOLA – Mosinee advanced five individuals in six events and four relay teams on to next week’s state meet after competing at the WIAA Division 2 Track & Field Sectional on Thursday at Osceola High School.


The top four in each event Thursday qualified for the WIAA Division 2 State Track & Field Championships on Friday, June 25, at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.


Cyle Kowalski will compete in four events, and Claire Selenske and Kate Fitzgerald in three each for Mosinee at the state meet.


Kowalski finished second in the boys 100 meters in 11.30 seconds and the long jump with a leap of 20 feet, 2 inches, and also was part of both Mosinee boys relay teams that qualified for state.


The 400 team of Drayton Lehman, Kowalski, Kyle Miller and Evan Utphall won in 43.79 seconds, and the 1,600 team of Lehman, Logan Cychosz, Miller and Kowalski took third in 3:33.29.


Selenske won the girls 300 hurdles in 46.38 and Fitzgerald was third in the 200 in 25.72. The two teamed with Adalyn Lehman and Kate Baars to finish third in the 800 relay (1:46.71), and with Lehman and Sydney Leszczynski to take second in the 1,600 relay (4:08.82).


Also earning spots at state for Mosinee were Emily Wicklund, who was second in the high jump (5-2), and Olivia Donohue, who finished third in the 3,200 (11:51.91).


Stratford will have one girl and a boys relay team compete at state.


Jaidyn Wright won the girls triple jump with a leap of 34 feet, 8¾ inches, and the boys 3,200 relay team of Elijah Lucio, Conner Weigel, Evan Danielson and Noah Lucio finished third in 8:29.37 for Stratford.


The Tigers had a couple of close misses as Drey Drexler finished fifth in the discus (129-9) and Luke Gaulke was fifth in the 200 meters (23.85 seconds). The top four in each event qualified for the state meet.


Wright finished seventh in the girls long jump (15-4½), Drexler was eighth in the boys shot put (45-1¾), the boys 1,600 relay team was 11th, Alexis Folz was eighth in the girls discus (102-0) and 16th in the shot put (30-5¾), and Lydia Golbach was 14th in the girls 1,600 (6:23.91). Darin Heeg didn’t qualify for the finals in the boys 300 hurdles.


Neillsville’s Taytor Lowry and Teagen Dillenbeck each qualified for the state meet two events.


Lowry was second in the boys 800 (2:03.04) and 1,600 (4:30.01), and Dillenbeck finished third in the 110 hurdles (15.89) and fourth in the long jump (19-11½).
