MOSINEE BOYS BASKETBALL DOMINATES SECOND HALF TO DEFEAT MARATHON

MOSINEE – The Mosinee boys basketball dominated the second half and defeated Marathon 62-53 in a nonconference game among Central Wisconsin heavyweights Tuesday night at Mosinee High School.
Mosinee ran out to a 14-2 lead before Marathon chipped away and took a 33-30 lead into halftime.
Marathon went up by as much as eight early in the second half before Mosinee (13-1) stormed back to tie the game with 10 minutes left, then outscored the Raiders 20-11 to earn the victory.
Keagan Jirschele hit three 3-pointers and scored a team-high 15 points for Mosinee. Trenton Dorn added 10, and Drake Grod and Trevor Garski each had nine in the victory.
Nathan Hanke had 19 points and Jaden Koeller 17 for Marathon, which falls to 11-2 as it had its seven-game winning streak snapped.
Marathon plays a Marawood Conference crossover game at Athens on Thursday at 7:15 p.m. The game will be live-streamed at zaleskisports.com.
Mosinee hosts Antigo for a Great Northern Conference game Friday at 7:15 p.m.
