LA CROSSE – Marshfield and Stevens Point had three advance to sectionals after competition at the WIAA Division 1 boys tennis subsectional Monday at the Green Island Tennis Complex. The event was hosted by La Crosse Central.
Players and teams reaching the semifinals in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, and those making the finals in all other flights advance to the sectional meet Wednesday at Eau Claire Memorial.
Ryan Paulman won his first match at No. 1 singles for Marshfield, defeating Elliott Schultz of Wisconsin Rapids 6-0, 6-1, to move on.
Also earning spots at the sectional for the Tigers were the No. 1 doubles team of Justin Rachu and Kai Rens, and the No. 2 doubles team of Kennan Chojnacki and Payton Smith.
Rachu and Rens won 6-1, 6-2, over Nick Shaitel and Gavin Richter of Tomah, and Chojancki and Smith won two matches in straight sets to advance for Marshfield.
Carter Gaede moves on to sectionals for Stevens Point at No. 4 singles as he won matches over Will Jepson of Marshfield 6-4, 6-4, and upended No. 1 seed Lucas Go of Onalaskai 6-4, 6-3.
SPASH’s No. 1 doubles team of Luke Hinchcliffe and Noah Hlavac won 6-1, 6-0, to move on, as will the No. 3 doubles team of Brock Chandonais and Jacob Lutgen, who had a bye as the No. 1 seed and then defeated Corbin Krueger and Ian Sennholz of Marshfield, 6-2, 6-1.
Wisconsin Rapids had one sectional qualifier as the No. 1 doubles team of Eric Huglen and Joey Bohman defeated Cameron Ewer and Nic Williams of La Crosse Central, 6-0, 6-2.
