MARSHFIELD'S MITCHELL TURNS CLUB GYMNASTICS SUCCESS INTO COLLEGE OPPORTUNITY
SPORTDESK - Marshfield's Abby Mitchell signed a letter of intent with UW-La Crosse Eagles gymnastics. Mitchell, a senior at Marshfield Senior High School, has been a club gymnast with Russell gymnastics in Stevens Point, WI for the past five years. Mitchell has been a level 10 gymnast for the past three years, the highest Junior Olympic level.
"I look forward to my last competition season here (Russell) and continuing to pursue my goals. Another reason I chose UWL is because of their successful history not only in their gymnastics but all of their athletic teams", said Mitchell.
Mitchell will join UW-La Crosse gymnastics coach, Kasey Crawford, who is currently in her fifth year coaching the Eagles gymnastics team. Prior to being named interim head coach after Barbara Gibson announced her retirement July 25, 2016, Crawford served as an assistant coach at UWL for eight years. She earned the 2015-16 NCGA West Region Assistant Coach of the Year award after helping lead UWL to its second straight national title. Crawford was named the 2011-12 and 2012-13 NCGA North Central Region Assistant Coach of the Year as UWL placed third at the 2012 NCGA Championships and second in 2013.
