APPLETON – Mosinee delivered a big blow in the opening inning, but Jefferson was able to chip away and eventually end the Indians’ season.

Jefferson scored in four consecutive innings to erase a five-run deficit and defeat Mosinee 6-5 in a Division 2 semifinal at the WIAA State Baseball Tournament on Thursday morning at Nienhaus Field.

Jefferson (24-7) moves into the D-2 championship game, which will be played at 6 p.m. Thursday at Fox Cities Stadium. Mosinee finishes its season with a 27-4 record.

Trevor Garski smacked a grand slam in the first inning and Keagen Jirschele singled and scored on an error in the second to give Mosinee a quick 5-0 lead. That would be all the Indians could muster and Jefferson began to chip away.

The Eagles scored a single run in the third, and added two runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game at 5-5.

In the sixth, Neitzel led off with a single and eventually scored on a fielder’s choice groundout by Kammer to put the Eagles up by one.

Mosinee was sent down in order in the fifth and sixth, but put the potential tying run on in the seventh. Jirschele led off with a single and went to second on sacrifice bunt by Taylor Lemanski.

Tyler Butina relieved starter Tyler Fredrick and was able to retire the final two hitters to earn the save and send Jefferson into the championship game.

Jirschele took the loss for Mosinee, striking out nine in 5 2/3 innings. He also went 2-for-4. Garski added a double and finished 2-for-3 for the Indians.
