EAU CLAIRE – For the third time in the last four seasons, and for the second year in a row, the Edgar football team is heading to the state finals.

The Wildcats pulled past undefeated Bangor 27-7 on Friday night in a WIAA Division 7 state semifinal at Carson Park to earn a spot in next week’s D-7 state championship game.

Edgar (12-1) will play Black Hawk/Warren (13-0) in the Division 7 state championship game at 10 a.m. Thursday at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.

The game is a rematch of last year’s Division 7 state final that Black Hawk won, 22-15.

Edgar will be appearing in its 13th state final and searching for the program’s eighth state title. Edgar won the Division 4 state title in 1979, Division 5 titles in 1992, 1999 and 2001, Division 6 championships in 2009 and 2019, and the D-7 title in 2016.

Kaleb Hafferman scored three touchdowns in the second half as the Wildcats pulled away.

Edgar led 7-0 at halftime on the strength of a 21-yard touchdown pass from Konnor Wolf to Kyle Brewster midway through the first quarter.

Hafferman had a 1-yard touchdown run in the third quarter before Bangor got on the board with a touchdown just before the end of the period.

Hafferman put the game away in the fourth quarter with a 2-yard touchdown run, and just 48 seconds later, an 11-yard interception return for a score.
