APPLETON – Marquette University recruit Emily LaChapell proved too much to handle as she led Appleton East to a 89-39 win over Wisconsin Rapids in the girls basketball season opener for both teams on Tuesday at East High School.


LaChapell scored 40 points on 14-for-22 shooting and an 11-for-11 performance at the free throw line for the Patriots. She also added 12 rebounds, seven assists and seven steals in the win.


Sammi Beyer added 17 points on the strength of five 3-pointers as well for the Patriots.


Wisconsin Rapids was held to 28 percent shooting (13-for-4780) in the loss. Megan Clary had 10 points for the Raiders.
