MOSINEE – The Mosinee and Wittenberg-Birnamwood football teams each won conference games by forfeit on Friday, and with the open date they played each other in a nonconference game at Mosinee High School.


Trevor Garski threw for 321 yards and four touchdowns to lift Mosinee to a 40-14 victory.


Davin Stoffel returned an interception 9 yards for a touchdown and Barnes Bunkelman added a 3-yard touchdown run to give Mosinee a 13-0 lead after the first quarter.


Following a Witt-Birn score, Garski threw the first of his four TD passes to Evan Utphall for 2 yards just 16 seconds before halftime and Mosinee to a 20-6 lead into the break.


Garski added touchdown passes of 75 yards to Keagan Jirschele, and 9 and 38 yards to Stoffel to provide the final margin for the Indians.


Jirschele finished with 117 yards receiving on six catches, and Stoffel hauled in six passes for 86 yards in the win for Mosinee.


With the forfeit win over Ashland, Mosinee is now 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the Great Northern Conference, and will play a conference game at Lakeland on Sept. 24. The game will be broadcast live at zaleskisports.com.
