UWSP AND STRATFORD'S MAZIE NAGEL HEAD TO NCAA TOURNAMENT TODAY

SPORTSDESK - The UW-Stevens Point Pointers volleyball team qualified for the NCAA Tournament via a five set win at UW-Whitewater on Saturday. The Pointers took down the Warhawks 20-25, 25-16, 20-25, 25-19, 15-10 in the WIAC Championship game, which had an automatic tournament berth on the line that the Pointers took advantage of. The Pointers are making their ninth overall tournament appearance and their first since 2015.
UW-Stevens Point now play Augsburg University (St. Paul, MN) Thursday, November 14th in St. Paul at the University of St. Thomas at 5:30pm.
Stratford alumn, Mazie Nagel, is a true freshman starter for the Pointers in 2019. Nagel has recorded 53 kills and 332 for the Pointers in 2019. Zaleski Sports caught up with Nagel after the Pointers home match on October 19th, watch the video below for her comments.
Baierl earns all-WIAC honors for Eau Claire volleyball Kendra Baierl, a 2017 graduate of Marshfield Columbus Catholic High School, is a junior on the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire women’s volleyball team, helping the Blugolds to an NCAA Division III Tournament berth.
Baierl was a first-team selection to the 2019 All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Volleyball Team.
Baierl has played in all 29 matches this season for the Blugolds, who are 20-9. She has 214 kills, 10 assists, 38 digs and a .284 hitting percentage heading into the tournament this week.
UW-Eau Claire will play St. Benedict (Minn.) in a regional on Thursday, Nov. 14, at St. Thomas University in St. Paul, Minn. Play continues in the regional through Saturday with the survivor moving on to the Elite Eight, Final Four and Championship matches at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on Nov. 21-23.
