SPASH SOFTBALL HOLDS OFF LATE RALLY TO DEFEAT WISCONSIN RAPIDS

WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Stevens Point smacked 12 hits and held off a late rally to defeat Wisconsin Rapids 4-3 in a Wisconsin Valley Conference softball game Thursday at Lincoln High School.
Stevens Point pitcher Maren Sauvaugeau coaxed a ground out with the bases loaded in the bottom of the seventh inning to finish off the victory. She struck out five for the Panthers.
The teams exchanged two runs in the opening inning. Miklaya Miklesh had an RBI single and Brooke Swiecki scored on an error to put SPASH up 2-0, before Wisconsin Rapids tied it on a two-run double by Rhainnon Carroll.
The Panthers (14-3, 8-3 Wisconsin Valley Conference) pulled ahead on an RBI single by Swiecki in the second inning and added another in the top of the seventh Emma Raikowski knocked in a run with a single.
Rapids (13-5, 6-4 Wisconsin Valley Conference) rallied in the seventh. Sawyer Holberg walked with the bases loaded with two outs, before a groundout ended the game.
Wisconsin Rapids will play at Marshfield at 4 p.m. Friday. The game will be broadcast live at zaleskisports.com.
Stevens Point will play two games at the Chippewa Falls Invitational on Saturday.
