SMIGAJ HAS HAT TRICK AS STEVENS POINT BOYS HOCKEY BEATS MOSINEE

STEVENS POINT – Kade Smigaj scored three goals, and Jackson Schroeder a goal and three assists to lift the Stevens Point boys hockey team to a 5-2 nonconference win over Mosinee on Tuesday at K.B. Willett Ice Arena.
Schroeder and Smigaj scored in the first period to put the Panthers (2-0) up 2-0.
The score held until the third period when SPASH scored three more time to open up a 5-0 lead. Smigaj scored twice and Coy Brish added another in the rally.
Mosinee’s Ethan Oatman scored twice in the final 5 minutes in the game.
Mosinee (1-1) plays at Medford in its Great Northern Conference opener on Thursday. Stevens Point returns to action Saturday afternoon with a nonconference game against Green Bay Notre Dame.
