RICE LAKE BLANKS MOSINEE IN WIAA DIVISION 3 BOYS SOCCER SECTIONAL FINAL

RICE LAKE – The Mosinee boys soccer team’s run through the playoffs ended on Saturday night with a 4-0 loss to Rice Lake in a WIAA Division 3 sectional final at Rice Lake High School.

Rice Lake (17-6-2) will take on Shorewood in a Division 3 semifinal at the WIAA State Boys Soccer Tournament at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee on Friday at 11 a.m. Mosinee ends its season with a 17-5 record.

Rice Lake used a pair of Mosinee penalties to convert direct kicks into goals in the 17th and 22nd minutes to open up a 2-0 lead.

Mosinee put together some scoring opportunities in the second half, but to no avail.

Rice Lake converted a penalty kick in the 53rd minute and scored again two minutes later to put away the win.

Statistically, the game was fairly even with Rice Lake only outshooting Mosinee 10-9 and each team finishing with eight corner kicks, but the Indians just couldn’t find a way to get on the scoreboard.
