STEVENS POINT – Plover pitcher Kenny Schultz threw six innings of shutout baseball and got plenty of run support as the Black Sox knocked off Marshfield 7-1 in a winners’ bracket game at the Class AAA Senior American Legion Baseball Regional on Sunday at Bukolt Park.
Plover (27-11) scored in five of its six at-bats, which included solo home runs from Jack Kelly and Derek Baumgartner.
Schultz did the rest, allowing seven hits, but no walks or runs, and struck out eight to earn the win.
Marshfield scored its only run in the top of the seventh against reliever Connor Mrozek.
Chandler Schmidt and Preston Wagner singled, and Riley Boushack walked to load the bases.
Isiah Baierl delivered a sacrifice fly to play Schmidt before Mrozek struck out the final batter to end the game.
Wagner had three hits and Devyn Palmer had a pair of hits for the Blue Devils (15-20).
In other action at the regional on Sunday, Wisconsin Rapids beat Merrill 1-2, Stevens Point eliminated D.C. Everest, and then knocked Wausau out of the tournament with an 8-2 win.
