ALMOND – Hannah Trzinski threw a two-hit shutout to lead the Pacelli softball team to a 2-0 victory over Laona/Wabeno in a WIAA Division 5 sectional final Wednesday at Almond-Bancroft High School, sending the Cardinals back to the state tournament again.
The 2021 WIAA State Softball Tournament will be held June 28-30 at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. Pacelli (24-3) will compete in one of the Division 5 semifinals are Monday, June 28, at 9 a.m. or 11 a.m. The championship game at 4 p.m. Seedings and matchups will be announced Thursday.
Hurley (23-5), Seneca (17-5) and Oakfield (23-2) round out the Division 5 state field.
Pacelli will be making its fourth-straight trip to the state tournament and 10th overall. The Cardinals will be trying for their fourth state title, having won the Division 4 crown in 2003 and 205, and the Division 3 championship in 2012.
Julia Storch had an RBI groundout in the second inning and knocked in a run with a single in the sixth, scoring Emily Grezenski each time, to provide all the offense Pacelli would need.
Trzinski did not walk a batter and struck out six as she dominated Laona/Wabeno, which managed singles in the sixth and seventh innings, and had two runners reach on errors.
