HURLEY – A pair of failed two-point conversions by Edgar proved to be the difference as the Wildcats lost a nonconference game to Hurley 22-20 in overtime on Friday night at Hurley High School.
After a scoreless first half, Hurley took a 6-0 lead on a 4-yard touchdown run by Max Blamey.
The teams exchanged touchdowns and two-point conversions in fourth quarter with Karter Butt scoring on a 2-yard run for Edgar and the Wildcats trailed 14-8 late.
The Wildcats pulled even in the final minutes when Butt scored again from 5 yards out. Edgar went for a two-point conversion and failed and the game was tied 14-14 with 1:26 left.
In overtime, Hurley scored first on a 2-yard run by Blamey, who finished with 175 yards rushing, and the Northstars added an important two-point conversion.
Edgar responded as Everet Brehm had a 25-yard TD run, but the Wildcats again couldn’t convert the two and fell short, falling to 3-3 this season.
Edgar hosts Auburndale for its Homecoming game next Saturday, Oct. 2, at 2 p.m. The game will be live at zaleskisports.com.
