MOSINEE – Mosinee scored a goal in overtime to overcome a halftime deficit and defeated Shawano 2-1 in a WIAA Division 3 boys soccer regional semifinal Thursday at Edgewood Field.

The third-seeded Indians (16-4) move on to a regional final at No. 2 seed Waupaca on Saturday at 7 p.m. Waupaca (12-2-2) beat New London 5-1 on Thursday.

Braylon Keonig scored in the 11th minute off a deflection for Shawano and the Hawks led 1-0.

That lead held until three minutes into the second half when Toren Holtz knocked in a low kick to the far post to tie the game for Mosinee.

Mosinee had multiple scoring opportunities and held Shawano to just a few, but neither team managed another score, sending the game into a pair of 10-minute overtime periods.

Just one minute into the first extra period, Cole Holtz had a free kick from 20 yards out that was deflected, but Garret Donohue was there to clean it up and put in the go-ahead score.

From there Mosinee took control of the game. For the rest of the first overtime, Mosinee had possession. Going into the second OT, Shawano got more chances, but the Indians patiently took time off the clock whenever possible and finished off the victory.

For the game, Mosinee had 20 corner kicks to one for Shawano, and 17 shots on goal to just five for Shawano.
