MARSHFIELD THIRD, MOSINEE SEVENTH AT APPLETON EAST VOLLEYBALL INVITE

APPLETON – The Marshfield volleyball team finished third and Mosinee took seventh at the 12-team Appleton East Patriot Invitational on Saturday.
Marshfield went 2-0 in pool play, defeating Ashwaubenon 25-9, 25-8, and Little Chute 25-21, 25-16. The Tigers lost to Appleton East in the semifinals, 26-28, 25-13, 15-8, before coming back to defeat Green Bay Notre Dame in the third-place match 25-21, 25-16.
Abby Ongna had 28 kills and 20 digs, Casey Frankland had 25 kills, Reinya Balderson had 76 assists and six service aces, and Elise Uphoff had 27 digs in Marshfield’s four matches. Caitlyn Pernsteiner added 21 kills and Rylee Corteen eight blocks for the Tigers.
Mosinee was 1-1 in pool play, beating Bay Port 25-10, 25-17, and losing to Hortonville 26-24, 25-12. In the consolation bracket, the Indians lost to Appleton West 26-24, 25-23, before defeating Stevens Point 25-18, 25-8, in the seventh-place match.
Jenna Placek had 15 kills and nine blocks, earning the top spot on Mosinee’s all-time blocks list with 224.
Jessica Maurer had a team-high 22 kills and 20 digs, Jessica Brown had 32 digs, and Alexis Jonas had 54 assists, 16 digs, 12 service aces and six blocks in the Indians’ four matches. Abbi Martin added 13 kills and seven blocks, and Hailey Shnowske had 18 digs as well for Mosinee.
Mosinee plays a Great Northern Conference match at Lakeland on Tuesday. Marshfield will host Wausau East for a Wisconsin Valley Conference match on Thursday.
