MARSHFIELD LEGION OVERCOMES EIGHT-RUN DEFICIT TO EARN WIN OVER ANTIGO

MARSHFIELD – In its second huge comeback in a week, the Marshfield Post 54 Legion baseball team stormed back from an eight-run deficit to defeat Antigo 18-11 in a wild Wisconsin Valley Legion League contest Monday night at Jack Hackman Field.


Marshfield is now 10-7 overall and 5-2 in the WVLL, while Antigo drops to 3-9 and 2-5 in the league.


Following a nine-run comeback win over D.C. Everest on June 22, the Blue Devils were at it again on Monday.


Antigo rolled out to a 9-1 lead after 2½ innings before Marshfield plated six runs in the bottom of the third to cut the deficit to two.


Marshfield tied it in the fourth with two runs, scored two more in the fifth after Antigo had scored one, and then put the game away with a seven-run sixth inning.


Two walks, two errors, a wild pitch, a two-run single by Riley Bauman and an RBI double from Ben Dietsche contributed to the big inning for the Blue Devils.


Bauman finished 3-for-5 with four RBI and three runs scored, Brock Bennington also added three hits, and Logan Homolka, Nick Urban, Carsten Jirschele and Colton Schillinger all had two hits in the win for Marshfield.


Urban, Braeden Schueller and Bennett Lang all knocked in a pair of runs for the Blue Devils.


Marshfield hosts Stevens Point as part of a Junior-Senior doubleheader on Tuesday at Hackman Field. The Junior game starts at 5 p.m. with the Senior game to follow.
