EDGAR SOFTBALL EDGES ASSUMPTION, HANDS ROYAL THEIR FIRST LOSS IN 2021
WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Reagan Borchardt drove in all four runs for Edgar as the Wildcats handed Wisconsin Rapids Assumption its first loss of the season, 4-3 on Thursday at Robinson Park.
Borchardt had a two-run single in the top of the first inning and a two-out, two-RBI double in the fifth to provide the Wildcats with all of their offense.
Assumption scored single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to crawl to within one, but couldn’t get the tying run across as the Royals stranded a runner on first in the bottom of the seventh.
Michaela Wirkus picked up the win for Edgar (10-3, 4-2 Marawood South), striking out 11 in a complete-game effort.
Ava Schill had 12 strikeouts in the loss for the Royals, who are now 11-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play.
Schill added two hits and two RBIs, and Sammy Nelson also added two hits and walked twice for Assumption.
Assumption plays at Rib Lake and Edgar will be at Athens for nonconference contests on Friday.
