ATHENS BOYS BASKETBALL PULLS PAST RIB LAKE IN DIVISION 5 REGIONAL QUARTERFINAL

ATHENS – The Athens boys basketball team outscored Rib Lake by 11 points in the second half to pull out a 63-49 win in a WIAA Division 5 regional quarterfinal Tuesday night at Athens High School.
The No. 4 seed Athens (19-6) will host a regional semifinal against No. 5 Bruce (19-6) on Friday at 7 p.m. Rib Lake finishes the season with an 8-16 record.
Athens shot just 32 percent from the field (20-for-62), but grabbed 41 rebounds, and made 16 of 25 free throws and seven 3-pointers to find a way to move on in the postseason.
Athens led 31-28 at halftime before outscoring the Redmen 32-21 in the second half to pull away.
Cooper Diedrich and Connor Sheahan each scored 18 points, with Diedrich grabbing 10 rebounds and Sheahan seven, to lead Athens.
Aiden Janke added 12 points and 10 rebounds, and Kody Lepak had 11 rebounds for the Bluejays.
