MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Columbus Catholic soccer team dropped its Central Wisconsin Conference opener, losing 2-1 to Amherst on Thursday at Griese Park.

Amherst scored a pair of first-half goals to take a 2-0 lead.

Alex Edwards scored off an assist from Tyler Linzmeier with 23 seconds left for the Dons’ only goal.

Columbus Catholic falls to 3-2 overall and will be back in action Monday at Northland Lutheran.
