WAUSAU – Abbotsford/Colby held off a late Wausau Newman Catholic rally and slipped past the Cardinals 5-4 in a nonconference baseball game Friday at Newman Catholic High School.
Despite having only three hits, Abbotsford/Colby pulled out to a 5-1 lead after 6½ innings.
A/C pitcher Nick Olvera was seemingly rolling along until Newman chased him in the bottom of the seventh. After an error and a walk, Brennan Shaughnessy smacked a three-run home run to bring the Cardinals to within one.
Mateo Lopez entered for the Falcons and got the final two outs to earn the save and give Abbotsford/Colby the victory.
