STEVENS POINT – The Stevens Point football team remained undefeated in the Valley Football Association with a hard-fought 28-20 win over rival D.C. Everest on Friday night at Goerke Field.

Stevens Point quarterback Riley Warzynski threw for 213 yards and two touchdowns, and ran for another as the Panthers improved to 5-1 overall and 4-0 in the VFA with the win.

Warzynski had a 1-yard touchdown run and hit Danny Zdroik for a 12-yard scoring pass to help Stevens Point build a 14-7 lead at halftime.

Ty Strehlow caught a 30-yard TD pass from Jack Bobinski for D.C. Everest’s score in the second quarter.

After D.C. Everest’s Triton Schmidt returned the second-half kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown to tie the game, Stevens Point took the lead again on a 2-yard TD pass from Warzynski to Quinton Martin.

D.C. Everest scored again early in the fourth when Bobinski threw to Strehlow for a 24-yard touchdown, but this time the Evergreens missed the extra point and trailed 21-20.

Stevens Point would hold Everest (3-3, 2-2 VFA) out of the end zone the rest of the way, and tack on an insurance score when Jaybreal Palbrach ran in from the 4.

Both teams return to VFA action next Friday, Oct. 1, with Stevens Point traveling to Wausau West and D.C. Everest hosting Wisconsin Rapids.
