MERRILL – The Stevens Point boys basketball team won its Wisconsin Valley Conference opener on Friday night, defeating Merrill 71-63 at Merrill High School.

Both teams are now 2-4 overall. Merrill falls to 0-2 in conference play.

James Jacobs had 24 points for SPASH.
