PLOVER LEGION SPLITS AT HOME TRIANGULAR

PLOVER – The Plover Black Sox Legion baseball team split a pair of games in a triangular on Sunday at Memorial Park, losing to Viroqua 8-1 and defeating Sheboygan 9-4.
The Black Sox (2-3) were held to two hits in the opener, singles by Brycen Cashin and Kaden Mayer. Thomas Hunt had a RBI in the sixth inning for Plover’s only run.
Jon Nafe took the loss, giving up eight runs in 5 2/3 innings with five strikeouts.
In Game 2, Plover scored twice in the fifth inning to tie the game at 4-4, then scored five times in the bottom of the sixth to pull out the victory.
The Black Sox finished with 12 hits, including four doubles. Matt Eiden, Tommy Drohner, and Carl Biechler and Drew Kedrowicz each had two hits, and Nafe drove in three runs in the victory.
Ben Fonti earned the win with three scoreless innings in relief of Brock Birrenkott, who struck out five and walked five in four innings.
Plover plays at Merrill on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
