HORICON SHUTS OUT IOLA-SCANDINAVIA IN WIAA DIVISION 4 STATE SOFTBALL SEMIFINAL

MADISON – Iola-Scandinavia’s first-ever trip to the WIAA State Softball Tournament ended with a 10-0 loss to Horicon in a Division 4 semifinal Thursday night at Goodman Diamond.


The Thunderbirds were limited to five hits in the loss, all singles.


Lizzie Gibbs struck out two and did not walk a batter in the six-inning complete-game effort for Horicon (22-6), which moves into a D-4 championship game against Grantsburg (21-2) on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The Marshmen are looking for their third state title in the past four seasons the tournament has been held, having won Division 4 championships in 2018 and 2019.


Maddie Much suffered the loss for Iola-Scandinavia (19-7), giving up nine runs, all earned, and 12 hits while walking three.


Makayla Much, Alexa Christoph, Maddie Much, Myah Heschke and Jaydn Krusa picked up hits for Iola-Scandinavia.
