AMHERST STAYS UNDEFEATED, KNOCKS OFF IOLA-SCANDINAVIA IN FIVE

IOLA, WI - The Amherst Falcons kept their undefeated season alive on Monday afternoon as they took down rival Iola-Scandinavia 17-0 in just five innings from Taylor Field in Iola on Monday afternoon. The new #1 team in the Division 3 rankings started off with a 3-0 lead after one and pulled away from there, scoring all 17 runs in the first four innings.


Senior Ben Lee got the win on the mound, going all five innings and allowing just a single hit while walking two and striking out nine. At the plate, the UW-Milwaukee commit also continued his incredible season going 3-4 with a double, four runs batted in and a stolen base. For the season, he’s hitting a cool .571, one of two Falcons hitting over .500.


The other .500 hitter is center fielder Jake Hoffman who ended up going 1-1 in the game but scored three runs and stole four more bases to give him 29 on the season without being thrown out once. Multiple Falcons joined them in the offensive explosion with five players driving in at least two runs in the game.


Jackson Fredy picked up the loss for Iola-Scandinavia. The junior right hander only lasted one inning, allowing seven earned runs on six hits. The Thunderbirds went through four pitchers in total, each one giving up at least three runs, walking six total and hitting five batters in the game.


For the Falcons, they now improve to 15-0 with two games ahead against Menominee Indian and a chance to clinch the conference championship on their home field on Thursday afternoon.
