WISCONSIN RAPIDS – Almond-Bancroft finally got to Assumption pitcher Ava Schill in the seventh inning, scoring three times and the Eagles held on for a 3-2 win in a WIAA Division 5 softball regional final Wednesday.

The game was scoreless through 5½ innings before the Royals managed a run in the bottom of the sixth against Almond-Bancroft pitcher Olivia Baumgartner, who inexplicably walked four-straight batters to give Assumption a 1-0 lead.

The Eagles turned the tables in the top of the seventh. Dernbach led off with a single, Meddaugh reached on an error on a sacrifice bunt, and L Dernbach delivered a sacrifice fly to knot the score at 1-1.

After another Assumption error, Rendall and Turzinski followed with RBI singles to put Almond-Bancroft on top 3-1.

Assumption scored once in the bottom of the seventh as Kendall Schmidt doubled home Sammy Nelson. Kolo reached on a bunt single, with Schmidt and Sadie Galbreath holding at second and third, respectively, before Baumgartner struck out the final two batters to end the game. Assumption finishes the season 16-2.

Almond-Bancroft (19-3) will play a Division 5 sectional semifinal vs. Stevens Point Pacelli at Woyak Park in Plover on Monday. Two of A-B’s losses this season came at the hands of the Cardinals by scores of 9-2 and 4-1.
