PITTSVILLE – A short-handed Pittsville volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to Wisconsin Valley Lutheran in a WIAA Division 4 regional quarterfinal on Tuesday night at Pittsville High School.
The No. 9 seed Wisconsin Valley Lutheran won 25-17, 25-10, 25-14, to advance to a Division 4 regional semifinal at No. 1 seed Marshfield Columbus Catholic on Thursday. Pittsville, the No. 8 seed, finishes its season with a 9-13 record.
A number of Pittsville players had to quarantine due to health and safety protocols and were unable to take part in the match.
“This is the hardest end to a season in my career,” Pittsville coach Buff Heller said. “All but one varsity starter was quarantined for tonight’s game. Instead of forfeiting we chose to play with JV1 and JV2 players. They gave it all they had but the lack of varsity experience on the court showed. It was great the support this team had all year and it was more so tonight. ‘Together.’”
Brynn Friday had five kills, two blocks and two service aces, Leah Downs had 16 digs, Gwyn Kumm had four assists, three kills and two aces, Emma Bowden had six assists, and Angelina Rees had eight digs for Pittsville.
