MARSHFIELD – Wisconsin Rapids scored in the bottom of the first inning and that gave pitcher Braden Lewis enough as he and the Rangers shutout Wausau 1-0 in a Class AAA American Legion baseball regional tournament elimination game Thursday afternoon at Jack Hackman Field.
Wisconsin Rapids’ Austin Junemann led off the first with a single, stole second and scored on a single by Tyler Beyer for the game’s only run.
Lewis allowed just four hits and one walk while striking out three as he dominated Wausau, ending its season.
Isaiah Piscitello was nearly as good for Wausau, giving up just the one run and five hits, while striking out seven.
Piscitello and Beyer each had two hits for their respective teams.
Wisconsin Rapids (10-3) will play at 1 p.m. Friday against Marshfield (12-10), a 6-3 loser to Plover on Thursday night. Wausau finishes its season with a 13-14 record.
Later Thursday afternoon, Stevens Point edged D.C. Everest 6-4, eliminating Everest from the tournament. Point (13-6) moves into a winners' bracket game against Plover (16-8).
