TWO FOURTH-QUARTER SCORES PUSHES ABBOTSFORD FOOTBALL PAST GREENWOOD

Zaleski Sports

ABBOTSFORD – Greenwood had Cloverwood Conference leader Abbotsford on the ropes, but the Falcons were able to score two touchdowns in the fourth quarter and edge the Indians 28-22 in high school football action Friday night at Abbotsford High School.

The score went back and forth for the first three quarters and each team exchanged touchdowns.

Mason Wellman had a 14-yard touchdown run for Abbotsford before Wyatt Artac scored from the 24 and ran in a two-point conversion for the Indians as they took an 8-6 lead after the first quarter.

Abbotsford quarterback Dalton Feddick had a 24-yard touchdown run that was matched by Greenwood’s Sullivan Whitford’s 3-yard score and the game was tied 14-14 at halftime.

Greenwood took the lead late in the third quarter when Xander Hinker ran in from the 9 and the Indians converted a two-point pass to go up 22-14.

That would be all the Indians would get and Abbotsford would find a way to win it in the fourth.

Cade Faber had a 32-yard touchdown run 11 seconds into the fourth quarter, and Feddick had a two-point run to tie the game for the Falcons.

Feddick had a 44-yard touchdown run with 4:56 to go for what proved to be the game-winner for Abbotsford (7-0, 5-0 Cloverwood).

Feddick finished with 208 yards rushing on 21 carries, and Faber added 79 as the Falcons finished with 334 yards rushing.

Greenwood’s run game was nearly as prolific, as Artac racked up 138 yards and Whitford 68 on the ground.

There was not a pass completion in the game.

Greenwood hosts Wisconsin Rapids Assumption next Friday, Oct. 11, and finishes the season Oct. 18 at Thorp. The Indians need to win both games in order to qualify for the WIAA playoffs.

Abbotsford plays at Owen-Withee on Oct. 11 and hosts Athens on Oct. 18.
