STEVENS POINT'S HARRIS WINS TWO EVENTS AT WIAA DIVISION 1 BOYS SWIMMING SECTIONAL

HUDSON – Stevens Point senior Drew Harris won two events and Marshfield’s 200-yard medley relay team set a new school record at the WIAA Division 1 boys swimming sectional on Saturday at Hudson Middle School.


Harris locked up state qualifying spots by winning the 500 freestyle in 4:44.12 and the 200 individual medley in 1:55.09. Winners of each of the 12 events qualify for the 2020 WIAA State Boys Swimming & Diving Championships on Feb. 22 at the University of Wisconsin Natatorium in Madison.


The Marshfield team of Kyle Berres, Myles Jensen, Sander Marty and Ethan Dagit finished the 200 medley relay in 1:45.07, breaking the old school record set in 1979. The relay team finished sixth in the event.


Eau Claire Memorial/North won the team title and will have all three of its relay teams and two individuals moving on to state in three events. Marshfield was sixth in the team standings as its season comes to an end. Stevens Point ended up fourth in the team standings and Wisconsin Rapids was eighth.


Konnor Pilger finished fifth in the 500 freestyle in 5:00.44 and Marco Kurzynski took sixth in the 50 freestyle in 22.84 as well for Stevens Point.


Adam Price was 10th in the 100 butterfly in 1:02.79 for Wisconsin Rapids’ lone top-10 individual finish.


Marshfield’s top two individual finishes came from Jensen, who finished fourth in the 200 freestyle in 1:49.69. He also placed sixth in the 500 freestyle in 5:05.44.


In addition to the medley team, Marshfield’s other two relay teams also placed in the top six. The 400 freestyle relay team of Jeffrey Berres, Kyle Berres, Dagit and Jensen took fifth in 3:33.94, and the 200 freestyle relay team of Jeffrey Berres, Dane Tollefson, Marty and Eli Splude finished sixth in 1:39.99.


Marty was seventh in the 100 butterfly (59.23) and Dagit finished eighth in the 100 freestyle (52.39) for Marshfield’s other top-eight finishes.
