STEVENS POINT FOOTBALL STAYS UNBEATEN IN VFA WITH WIN OVER WISCONSIN RAPIDS

STEVENS POINT – Riley Warzynski threw two touchdown passes as the Stevens Point football team defeated Wisconsin Rapids 24-6 in a defensive Valley Football Association battle on Friday night Goerke Field.
Warzynski hit Danny Zdroik for a 2-yard TD pass and Cam Saeger kicked a 31-yard field goal to give Stevens Point a 10-0 lead at halftime.
Warzynski then delivered a 36-yard scoring pass to Quinton Martin in the third quarter to push the Panthers’ lead to 17-0.
Wisconsin Rapids responded when Teal Lucas threw a 23-yard touchdown pass to Austin Junemann, but that would all the Raiders would be able to muster against a tough Stevens Point defense.
SPASH allowed just 212 yards total and 189 yards on the ground on 49 carries by Rapids, and tacked on a late touchdown down Ty Madlena returned an interception 56 yards for the game’s final score. The Panthers’ defense forced four turnovers in all as Rapids fumbled seven times, losing three.
Leo Brostowitz had 148 yards rushing to lead the Raiders’ ground attack.
Point only had 188 yards of total offense, 139 through the air by Warzynski.
Stevens Point (4-1, 3-0 Valley Football Association) will be at home against D.C. Everest, and Wisconsin Rapids (1-3, 1-1 VFA) will host Hortonville in VFA games next Friday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m.
