SPASH DOUBLES TEAM ADVANCES, MARSHFIELD'S PAULMAN ELIMINATED AT STATE BOYS TENNIS TOURNAMENT

MADISON – Stevens Point’s No. 1 doubles team of Luke Hinchcliffe and Noah Hlavac earned a first-round victory, and Marshfield senior Ryan Paulman was eliminated at No. 1 singles as the 2022 WIAA State Individual Boys Tennis Tournament began Thursday at the Nielsen Tennis Stadium on the University of Wisconsin campus.
Hinchcliffe-Hlavac (18-1) needed a tiebreaker set to defeat Jackson Harpt and Owen McDonough of De Pere, 6-3, 6-7 (7), 10-4, to advance to the second round.
The SPASH duo, which is seeded 13th in the tournament, will take on Josh Bradley and Riley Saas (12-10) of Verona in a second-round match Friday morning.
Paulman lost to Logan Longhenry of Big Foot, 6-0, 6-1, in a Division 1 No. 1 singles opening round match. Paulman finishes the season with a 12-8 record.
