PORT EDWARDS BOYS BASKETBALL HOLDS OFF WILD ROSE

WILD ROSE – The Port Edwards boys basketball team jumped on Wild Rose early and were able to hold for a 51-43 win in a Central Wisconsin Conference South Division game Thursday night at Wild Rose High School.


Port Edwards raced out to a 33-17 lead at halftime before Wild Rose was able to cut into the lead in the second half, but came out short in the end.


The win allows the Blackhawks to keep pace with the leaders in the CWC South standings. Almond-Bancroft and Stevens Point Pacelli are both 6-1, one-half game ahead of 5-1 Port Edwards (10-5 overall).


Nathan Gibbs had 27 points to pace the Blackhawks.


Austin Erickson had 12 points and nine rebounds, and Brett Wilbert had 10 points and eight rebounds for Wild Rose (3-9, 1-5 CWC South).


Both teams will hit the road for CWC South games on Monday. Wild Rose will be at Tri-County and Port Edwards travels to Almond-Bancroft.
