STEVENS POINT – The Pacelli girls basketball team was able to hold off a stingy Port Edwards squad and escaped with a 39-36 victory in a Central Wisconsin Conference South Division contest Tuesday night at Pacelli High School.

The Cardinals led throughout, but had to hold off a late push from Port Edwards.

The Blackhawks had the ball down two points in the final seconds but Pacelli forced a turnover and Ashley Strizel made a free throw with 0.9 seconds left to finish off the win for the Cardinals.

Pacelli improves to 9-5 and remains undefeated in the CWC South at 6-0, which places them in a tie for first place with Wild Rose. The two teams meet next Monday at Wild Rose.

Amelia Jacoby scored 10 points to lead Pacelli.

Taylor Martin had six 3-pointers and scored a game-high 20 points for Port Edwards (2-12, 0-7 CWC South).

Pacelli plays at Tri-County and Port Edwards hosts Wild Rose in CWC South action Friday.
