NEILLSVILLE - The Neillsville Warriors softball team began its 2022 campaign with a home loss against the Chippewa Falls McDonell Macks, falling 15-5 on Monday night.
The Warriors saw a 5-3 fifth-inning lead slip away with six Macks runs in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Neillsville scored all of its five runs in the fifth inning that included six hits and one Macks error. Ava Mortenson, Cali Moseid, Lainey Horn, and Mia Trunkel all had RBI in the inning.
McDonell took advantage of three consecutive walks to start the sixth, five walks in total in the inning, on its way to six runs. After sitting down the Warriors in order in the bottom of the sixth, the Macks earned four more walks in the seventh along with back-to-back doubles in another six-run frame.
Abby Koepp and Delaney Rochester combined for nine walks and all 15 McDonell runs were earned.
