MOSINEE VOLLEYBALL HOLDS OFF WINNECONNE TO WIN DIVISION 2 SECTIONAL SEMIFINAL

MOSINEE – The Mosinee volleyball team inched closer to the state tournament with a 3-1 victory over Winneconne in a WIAA Division 2 sectional semifinal match on Thursday night at Mosinee High School.


The Indians won 25-23, 25-14, 21-25, 25-18, and Mosinee (33-3) moves on to a Division 2 sectional final at Luxemburg-Casco on Saturday at 7 p.m. Both teams are No. 1 seeds in the Sectional 2 bracket.


Mosinee is in the sectional final for the fourth-straight season and will look to duplicate its performance in the 2018 final, when it won and went to only the second WIAA state tournament in program history.


Jenna Placek had 12 kills and nine blocks, Abbi Martin had 11 kills and Clare Selenske added 10 kills and 13 digs for Mosinee.


Setter Alexis Jonas had 34 assists and 10 digs, Jessica Mauer chipped in 14 digs, and Dannica Shupe had six blocks as well for the Indians.
