MARSHFIELD SOFTBALL SPLITS TWINBILL WITH CHIPPEWA FALLS

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield softball team had 20 hits in a pair of games and split a nonconference doubleheader with Chippewa Falls on Thursday at Madison Field.
Chippewa Falls won the opener 5-4 before Marshfield rallied to earn the split, winning Game 2 7-3.
Two errors allowed Chippewa Falls to score two runs, and Baker hit a two-run homer to give Chippewa Falls (10-3) to 4-0 lead in the third inning of the opener.
The Tigers rallied, cutting the deficit to 5-4 with a three-run sixth.
Loryn Jakobi hit a solo home run in the fourth before the Tigers scored three in the sixth. Brianna Jakobi had an RBI double, and Sandra Costa drove in a run with a single and score don a sacrifice fly by Lydia Schaefer.
The Tigers couldn’t get another run across, going down in order in the seventh.
In Game 2, the Tigers scored three times in the second inning to take the lead for good and held on from there.
Courtney Donahue earned the win with a complete game for the Tigers, striking out three. She also added two hits and two RBIs at the plate.
Madalen Bornbach had three hits and scored twice, and Costa had a pair of hits for Marshfield (10-4).
Marshfield returns to Wisconsin Valley Conference action Tuesday with a doubleheader at Merrill.
