MOUNT VERNON 19, YORKTOWN 8
Yorktown ended the regular season with a 19-8 loss at Mount Vernon. The Tigers’ only touchdown came with 3:02 left in the fourth quarter after they trailed 19-0. Austin Hill scored on a 2-yard play and he added a 2-point conversion.
Yorktown won four of its final five Hoosier Heritage Conference games and tied for fourth place at 4-3.
The Tigers will play at home next Friday against Guerin Catholic in the opening round of Class 3A sectional action.
LOGANSPORT 51, MUNCIE CENTRAL 41
Shoka Griffin’s season-best rushing performance wasn’t enough to prevent Central from picking up its first win of the season. The sophomore running back rambled for 306 yards and five touchdowns on 43 carries in the defeat.
Griffin’s counterpart from Logansport, Josh Manfred, rushed for 293 yards and five touchdowns.
“I respect him a lot,” Manfred told the Logansport Pharos Tribune about playing defense against Griffin. “He hits hard, and he was dragging us. Hitting him was a pain, but I had to do it. But he deserves all the respect.”
The Bearcats will play at Greenfield-Central next Friday in Class 4A sectional action.
WES-DEL 41, PURDUE POLYTECHNIC 0
Wes-Del closed out its regular season by claiming its second win of the year, 41-0 on senior night. All the scoring occurred in the first half.
Quarterback Eric Harlan ran for three touchdowns and passed for three scores. Hit hit Caeden McClaughry twice for TDs and Karson Lutton once.
Wes-Del (2-7) will take on Union City on the road next Friday in the first round of Class A sectional action.
NEW PALESTINE 49, DELTA 13
Delta fell behind 35-0 at halftime and suffered a loss to Class 5A No. 1 New Palestine at home.
The Eagles got on the scoreboard in the third quarter as Brady Hunt passed 7 yards to Malachi Silmon for a touchdown. Wesley Stitt added the Eagles’ final TD on a 9-yard run in the fourth period.
Charlie Spegal, who played his first two seasons at Delta, led New Palestine with 232 yards rushing on 31 carries, including three touchdowns.
Class 4A No. 9 Delta (7-2, 5-2 Hoosier Heritage Conference) will play at Class 4A No. 7 Mississinewa next Friday in the first round of sectional action.
